Why we built it
Most families have been through it. Someone is gone, or suddenly unable to speak for themselves, and the people left behind are searching. Where is the will? What was the password to the computer? Which drawer was the insurance in? And, harder still: what would they have wanted to say, if they had known it was the last chance?
The words go unsaid because there never seems to be a right moment. The documents go missing because they live in one head and one filing cabinet. We wanted a drawer that could hold both, and that would open by itself when the time came, without anyone having to know it was there or remember where the key was.
The one rule we run it by
We hold no keys. Everything you put in Legacy Drawer is encrypted on your own device before it is sent to us, with keys that only you hold. We cannot read your messages, we cannot open your documents, and we cannot hand them to anyone else, because we do not have the means to. Neither does anyone who might break into our servers.
That rule has a cost, and we would rather tell you about it here than surprise you later: we cannot reset a forgotten password. The app offers a spare key, a recovery code you keep somewhere safe, for exactly that reason. We think a service that keeps your most private words should be built so that even the people running it are locked out. So that is how we built it.
The same thinking runs through the rest: no advertising, no trackers, no analytics, and nothing sold to anyone. Legacy Drawer starts free, and the paid plans add room as you need it; any change to them is announced on this site first.
